Conferences & Other
A collection of miscellaneous videography from international climate and ocean summits, which I have helped film, interview, cut or translate. From onboard debates at the UN Ocean Conference in Nice to financial forums in Monaco and climate negotiations at COP27 in Egypt.
Herders of Change
This project tells the story of nomadic families in Mongolia who are facing extreme weather, with temperatures swinging from -40°C to +40°C. The team created a 30-minute movie and a photo gallery to show how climate change is making it hard for herders to find grass for their animals. Commissioned by the Asian Development (ADB), the film shows ADB is helping these families by building better water supply systems, kick-start eco-tourism programs and mitigate desertification, so they can keep their traditional way of life.
El Espíritu de nuestro Mar
I developed this project as part of my PhD at the University of British Columbia. The work focused on improving the management of the marine protecte area in La Paz, Mexico. The team spent two months filming a movie called The Spirit of Our Sea, talking to over 40 locals (like fishers and scientists), and printing 5,000 copies of a bilingual newspaper that included articles from experts, local organisations and drawings from kids. The goal was to make sure the people who live there have a say in how the their local marine protected area is managed. At the time of filming the project, it was doing too well, but there is a great willingness amongst everyone to work together to keep the waters around the Isla Espírtu Santo healthy for the future.
El Pueblo es el Mar
This project took place in Patagonia, Argentina, to help protect the local bay from pollution and overfishing. It was my first, and very improvised documentary film. We made the movie to show how much the ocean matters to the people living in San Antonio and the neigbouring communities. Next to filming, we also ran a contest for kids to share their own drawings and poems about the sea. Because of this project, a local factory decided to change how it gets rid of its waste so it could minimize the risk of polluting the marine protected area.
